Shape matters: a Brownian microswimmer in a channel

چکیده
We consider the active Brownian particle (ABP) model for a two-dimensional microswimmer with fixed speed, whose direction of swimming changes according to process. The probability density swimmer evolves Fokker-Planck equation defined on configuration space, structure depends swimmer's shape, center rotation and domain swimming. enforce zero flux at boundaries space. derive reduced in an infinite channel, limit small rotational diffusivity, find that invariant strongly precise shape rotation. also give formula mean reversal time: expected time taken completely reverse channel. Using homogenization theory, we expression effective longitudinal diffusivity show it is bounded by time.

A frictionless microswimmer
We investigate the self-locomotion of an elongated microswimmer by virtue of unidirectional tangential surface treadmilling. We show that the propulsion could be almost frictionless, as the microswimmer is propelled forward with the speed of the backward surface motion, i.e. it moves through an almost quiescent fluid. We investigate this swimming technique using the special spheroidal coordinat...
متن کاملGas Mixing Simulation in a T-Shape Micro Channel Using The DSMC Method
Gas mixing in a T-shape micro mixer has been simulated using the Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method. It is considered that the adequate mixing occurs when the mass composition of the species, CO or N2, deviates below 1 % from their equilibrium composition. The mixing coefficient is defined as the ratio of the mixing length to the main channel’s height. As the inlet Kn increases, while ...
متن کاملActive Brownian motion in a narrow channel
We review recent advances in rectification control of artificial microswimmers, also known as Janus particles, diffusing along narrow, periodically corrugated channels. The swimmer self-propulsion mechanism is modeled so as to incorporate a nonzero torque (propulsion chirality). We first summarize the effects of chirality on the autonomous current of microswimmers freely diffusing in channels o...
متن کاملShape matters in cooperation
Why do organisms cooperate with each other? This seemingly simple question has motivated a staggering amount of theoretical and experimental research. When cooperating with others carries a direct fitness cost for the individual, natural selection should act against such behavior. However, cooperation is widespread across natural systems, from birds and bees to bacteria. Past research has ident...
